Adding an image to a text message for your employees can make the message clearer and more interesting. However, there are some guidelines to keep in mind when selecting an image to add.
When using an image as part of your message, there are a few crucial things to consider - specifically, image file size, image dimensions and file type. These play a key role in ensuring message deliverability and speed.
Image File Size: The smaller your file size, the faster your deliverability rate will be. We recommend that your file size not exceed 500KB. You can use free tools like TinyPNG to compress a larger file size into a smaller one!Image Dimensions: MMS image dimensions are measured by pixels. Generally a 300x300 image will look the best while also being on the smaller size. Free tools like Canva and PhotoPea can help you get started with the proper dimensions.
File Type: Below are a list of the most common image file types:
- .JPG/.JPEG
- .PNG
- .GIF
Other file types such as documents (.PDF, .DOC, .DOCX), presentations (.PPT, .PPTX) or spreadsheets (.CSV, .XLS, .XLSX) are not supported by carriers and cannot be attached to an MMS message.
How do I choose which format to use?
- .JPG/.JPEG is best for photographic images
- .PNG for any image that needs transparency or has text & imagery, like a logo
- .GIF are best for images that are animated, but remember, animation contributes significantly to file size
Why do my images look like they're getting cut off?
Different phone operating systems handle cropping for previewing images differently. Regardless of operating system, the full image is viewable by tapping the image shown in the preview. For the most consistent results between preview and full image, an image should have a 1:1 or 9:16 aspect ratio.
