How to review Survey feedback and results?

Dig into participation, scores, comments, themes, and individual responses all in one place

goHappy's feedback module gives you a rich set of tools to analyze survey results — from high-level participation and scores down to individual responses, comment sentiment, and location-level benchmarks. This guide walks you through everything available to you inside a survey dashboard.

Where to Start

  1. Click Feedback in the main navigation
  2. Click into the survey you want to review

The Main Dashboard

The first page you'll land on is the survey dashboard. Here's what you'll find:

Participation

At the top of the dashboard you'll see your participation numbers:

  • Delivered — how many employees received the survey
  • Completed — how many responded
  • Failed Deliveries — any messages that didn't successfully deliver

Overall Score

Depending on your survey type, you'll see an overall score at the top:

  • New Hire Survey → Onboarding Experience Score
  • Engagement Survey → Engagement Score
  • Exit Survey → Exit Score

For New Hire Surveys, you'll also see a breakdown of the three survey themes directly on the dashboard.

Data Fields (Filters)

At the top of the dashboard are data fields — payroll data points pulled in from your HRIS file that let you slice and dice your results in different ways.

How to use them:

  • Click a field (e.g., District) to filter all data to that specific value
  • Layer in additional fields to narrow further — for example, filter by District and then by Job Title simultaneously
  • All scores, charts, and data on the page will update based on your selections

You can also use the submitted date filter to view results for a custom date range or choose from pre-selected time period options.

💡 Tip: Filters apply across the entire survey experience — including when you drill into individual questions, comments, and the analysis tab.

Viewing Individual Questions

Click View Details on the dashboard to go into the individual question results.

For each question you'll see:

  • The statement or question text
  • The average rating based on your currently selected filters
  • A breakdown by score — how many employees (and what percentage) rated that item a 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1

Viewing Comments on a Question

If a question had optional comments, you'll see a comment icon next to it. Click it to open the comments for that question.

Inside the comments view you can:

  • Filter by score — click on a specific rating (e.g., click "5" to see only comments from employees who rated that item a five, or click "1" to see what lower-scoring employees had to say)
  • View sentiment — each comment is analyzed by AI to show whether the sentiment is positive, negative, or neutral
  • View comment themes — see which themes this comment has been grouped with
  • Translate comments — click the translate button to convert any comment into your preferred language, useful when employees respond in different languages

Comment Themes(New Hire, Exit, and Engagement Surveys)

The Comment Themes tab (in the left navigation) uses AI to group all comments into positive and constructive themes — so you don't have to read through every individual response to understand the big picture.

You'll see:

  • Positive themes — what employees are saying good things about (e.g., Training, Team Culture)
  • Constructive themes — areas employees flagged for improvement (e.g., Career Advancement, Communication)
  • For each theme: how many comments mentioned it and what percentage of total comments that represents

Click on any theme to scroll down and see sample comments that mention it.

💡 Tip: All theme data respects your active filters — so if you've filtered to a specific district or job title, the comment themes will reflect only that segment's feedback.

The Comments Tab

The Comments tab shows all open-ended comments left on the survey — particularly useful for the final open-ended question asking for general feedback.

For each comment you can see:

  • The employee's overall survey score
  • The sentiment (positive, negative, neutral)
  • Any themes associated with that comment
  • A translate button if the comment is in another language

Sorting and searching:

  • Sort comments by overall score — high to low or low to high
  • Search comments by keyword — for example, search "training" to see every comment that mentions it

The Responses Tab

The Responses tab shows every individual survey submission. Click on any response to open it and see:

  • How that specific employee rated every single item
  • Any comments they left
  • A low score flag — automatically applied to any response that includes a rating of 1 or 2 on any item, so you can quickly identify and prioritize concerning responses

The Analysis Tab

The Analysis tab shows favorability ratings broken down by your payroll data points — location, job title, district, and more — and compares them against benchmarks.

Benchmarks available:

  • Company average — your organization's overall favorability rate
  • goHappy benchmark — the average across all goHappy customers using that survey type
  • Industry average — average for your specific industry (where available)

You can toggle between benchmarks to see how your locations compare.

Stack Ranking

At the bottom of the Analysis tab you'll see a full stack ranking of all locations (or whatever data field you're analyzing), showing you at a glance which locations are performing above or below the benchmark — and by how much.

💡 Use case: Use the stack ranking to identify your highest and lowest performing locations. Locations below the benchmark may need additional support or attention on the onboarding or engagement process.

Downloading Your Data

Under Survey Tools, you have three download options:

Download What It Contains
Download all results (CSV) Every response and score in a spreadsheet format
Download comments All open-ended comments in one file
Download comments by theme Comments organized by their AI-assigned themes

💡 Tip: Use the CSV export if you need to share results with stakeholders, do your own analysis in Excel, or combine data with other HR reports.

Important Things to Know

Dashboards look different per survey type New hire, engagement, and exit surveys each have their own scoring model and themes. The overall structure described in this article applies to all of them, but the specific score names and themes will vary. Custom surveys you create will have a different look, but the navigation, filtering, and downloading results will be the same.

Filters carry through everything Once you apply a data field filter on the main dashboard, it stays active as you navigate through questions, comments, themes, and analysis — so your data always reflects the segment you've selected.

Low score flags help you act fast Any response with a 1 or 2 rating on any item gets automatically flagged. Combine this with the real-time low scoring response email notification to take action quickly when a concerning response comes in. See How to Set Up Email Notifications for details.
